We''ve been using this for about a month now on our Standard Poodle. We bought the Medium harness, based on her chest size and fellow poodle owner''s experience with this.
She is 14 and has hip dysplasia and arthritis in her knee/hip and back. She recently had a stroke and could not get up on her own for days. Due to her age, we cannot operate and will keep her as comfortable as possible but sometimes this means that we have to get her up and moving. She needs to move and go outside to potty.
Because of the dysplasia, squatting is difficult. Because of the stroke, she gets dizzy and is off balance. A whole laundry list of problems to work around. We found that this harness was our solution, but we had some issues with it.
She was quite happy to just have it put on and keep it on all day. The rear harness is a bit difficult to fit on her, as she has a narrow waist/hips and long legs. We found that it would start to slip down (like a saggy diaper) when she was wearing it. The front harness is easy to fit and we had better luck with the overall fit of it. Although it doesn''t say that you can lift your pet from this strap, the company assured me that you certainly can. The connectors can certainly take the weight and distribute it evenly across your pet''s shoulders and hip harness.
It has been 2 months since the Vestibular Disease episode/stroke and our dog has fully recovered. The harness has been lent to a friend to help with their dog. They love it as much as we did. The last picture is our dog currently: healthy and happy.
A worthwhile investment and a tremendous help to you and your pet.
**I contacted the company and they sent a narrower y-connector strap that is more easily adaptable for our needs. Thank you David for your concern and immediate help! **

When we took her to the vet, we had her in the complete harness with the shoulder strap for additional support and everyone commented on ''wow, look at that gear!''
She had not trouble doing her business with the harness on, as there is enough room between the leg straps for that. We sometimes had to use the rear harness handle to support her so she didn''t fall over, but even holding her up, it didn''t cause her any discomfort in her uro-genital area.
The handles are well positioned at the shoulder and hips to help them get up and move around, but again: I just wish that the connection tying the front and rear harness together was shorter. For a smaller dog, I can''t imagine how they''d made this work. We considered cutting the webbing and re-sewing it to suit our needs.

Temporary Godsend!

I''ll try to fill in some detail that I would have liked to known before buying this device. So, If this is too long of a review, just know my first point... 1. The device worked well for the short amount of time that I used it, less than one week. It was an absolute Godsend for this time period though! My 12 year old Great Dane/Mastiff had suffered arthritis and neuropathy in his hind end over the last few years of his life. I purchased this item with the thought that, "one day...he will need assistance navigating the stairs, etc.". His final days were nearly immobile, with me being his sole source of mobility. Literally, one day he could walk, the next day he could only use his front end/forelegs. Within the week he lost the use of his front limbs, as well.
2. He had significant atrophy, which may have negatively impacted the device''s fit.
A. The straps that went around the hind legs slid to under his knees while he was laying down. When I performed a full-lift for him (when he was unable to lift himself at all) it was difficult to support his full weight & move the straps back to their intended locations, more centered toward the sacrum. However, once they were where they were supposed to be, they remained in place while he was upright.
B. The shoulder harness just didn''t quite adjust to fit him to where I thought he was comfortable. But - it was functional.
3. I did not feel comfortable leaving him in the device/harness unsupervised. It could have had more padding on the straps in the under the armpit & groin and for the metal adjustment buckles for comfort during prolonged wear. Additionally, due to my dog''s inability to move safely on his own, I didn''t want him potentially get entangled and injure himself struggling to get loose, so I never left him in the device for more than a few hours at a time.
4. The shoulder strap was absolutely imperative for me. I''m 5''5". My dog (Great Dane) weighed over 120 lbs & was very tall at the shoulders & hips. So, in order to lift him I squatted, very low to the ground, over him & placed the strap over my shoulder & neck and then stood up (using my legs!) & stood to one side, as he stood taller than my inseam.
5. In going up & down the 3 stairs to get outside I kept the shoulder strap on, bearing most of his weight over my shoulders and neck area, and also used the handles on the shoulder harness & hip harness of the device to assist in navigating and managing his weight safely on the stairs & through the doorway. I would not recommend utilizing just the shoulder or just the hip harness solo, as they slide right off in that configuration, at least with a large dog.
6. The strap that went around his underbelly covered his penis. So, while this portion of the device is necessary for weight distribution, it was cumbersome for urination. This strap had to be removed to enable urination & then refastened to assist with taking the weight off of the straps that went around his hind legs. I wound up having to wash this portion a few times.
7. Ultimately, I''m so glad to have found this product!!
A. It was readily available for shipment - in the size that I needed.
B. It performed as stated.
C. It shipped as stated.
D. The price point was within my budget.
The functionality of this product allowed me to spend a few more days loving my baby boy...I could not have had those days without it! I honestly don''t know what I would have done otherwise, as I could not have afforded the other devices on the market.
I hope this info helps you in your quest to continue loving your fur baby safely.
Best wishes!

Do NOY, NOT, NOT leave this harness on your dog full time! I really wanted this harness to be a miracle for our senior (14.5 yr old German Shepard) dog... And it was for 3 weeks. His back legs have been getting weaker and he has been having difficulty pushing himself up with them to stand. So this harness made it so much easier to help him up and to help walk him, so much easier than using a towel. Since the manufacturer said it could be left on all the time, that''s what we did since it was tricky and not fun for the dog to keep taking it off and putting it back on. I would remove the harness about twice a week to clean it and my dog who is prone to accidents in the house. This week as I was removing the harness, I noticed his hind side was red and his fur rubbed off. I removed the rest of the harness to reveal a deep laceration in his side under the harness. It was so bad I immediately called the vet and took him in where he received 10 staples in his side!!! I am so traumatized thinking that I caused this pain to my poor baby.

If you do decide to get this harness (as it did work great for what we needed it for) please add in extra padding to the back leg straps to thicken them and keep them from cutting into the leg. Also check your dog after each use to make sure there is no rubbing or cutting happening. The harness may hide any damage that is happening. And even though it may be an inconvenience, take the harness off at night or for a little while each day just to ensure no damage is happening. I would hate to see someone else''s dog get hurt.

The reason I gave one star even though I think the harness worked great is because of the lack of padding on the hind leg straps where must of the lifting will be done for your dog and obviously because of the damage the harness caused to my dog.

The photo shows my dogs side shaven with the staples in.

Package indicates you can use the front and rear sections independently but the rear section will not stay on by itself . The front, however, is fine by itself. We watched YouTube videos but still the rear harness was a pain to get on and adjust. It is durable, well-made and the color is very nice. Once you get it all together, it does work and I''m very glad I bought it. I had tried a sling but couldn''t even lift my 100 dog an inch off the floor. This system allows myself (I have feet and back issues) to lift my dog in and out of my car by myself without much strain which is something I couldn''t do before. I would suggest this product to anyone with a dog with mobility issues BUT they really need to come out with a step by step multiple angle YouTube video on how to put it all together/adjust the straps as that was super frustrating.

Our 13-1/2 year old Golden Retriever Ellie had developed bone cancer in her rear leg... she had trouble getting up and though she could still swim, had trouble getting out of the lake. Having this device made her last two weeks with us possible. It was exactly what was needed to get her up and stabilized, to help her on upslopes, and to actually lift her entirely off the ground when needed. She slept in it, did her business wearing it, and never gave any indication of any discomfort in any way. It is a well-conceived and well-engineered product that delivers! 5 stars for sure.

My pup was recently diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), and had to undergo an emergency hemilaminectomy, otherwise she risked being paraplegic for the rest of her life.

Since having the operation, my dog has lost her ability to walk (hopefully, temporarily).

That said... Although she cannot walk, she has since regained full control of her bladder and anal sphincter. This requires me to take her outside a few times during the day to handle her ''business.''

Prior to purchasing this unit, I was using the sling by GingerLead, which seemed like the best option at the time. However, when I went back to vet for my dog''s followup to remove the staples in her back, the neurologist recommended I get a harness similar to the Help Em'' Up Harness, because it supported her hips... Since I couldn''t find that brand on Amazon, I settled on the Solvit. (True Story.)

Anyhow... After receiving and making adjustments to the unit, I took her out for a quick walk to see how it compared to the sling.

I must say... It was MUCH easier to hold her up with this unit. We walked for a few blocks then turned back toward the APT building. (Prior to this, my hands would get tired before even reaching he second block.)

The next step was hoisting her up a small flight of stairs. That''s when I was sold.

Prior to having this unit, I used the sling and another harness (not made for hoisting) to get her up the stairs in my apt building. Although it worked, I felt as if she was uncomfortable everytime I did so.

The next test was in using the unit to get her in her crate (where she needs to spend most of her time for the next few weeks).

Again, the unit was much easier to use than the sling. Less slack, less dragging of her legs. More control.

Since having the unit, I''ve used it to hoist her up stairs, into my small car, into her crate, and of course, on our walks.

At ~$50, this unit is fair priced, and an absolute Godsend to anyone that has a dog that has trouble walking... Or in my case, a dog that is (hopefully, temporarily) paraplegic.

If your dog has an injury, or undergoing rehab (like mine), ditch the sling and get a full body lifting harness.

Your back and forearms will thank you. And your dog will likely recover quicker since their lower spine and hind legs are getting the support they need.

Although the sizing is a bit odd (I ordered and Medium for 62lb pit bull), the unit seems to be well constructed. Although the included shoulder strap may come in handy, I also found it a bit odd to use.

As for getting/fitting the harness, the setup took maybe 10 minutes (since my dog is paraplegic, and I had to maneuver around her more than I would had she been able to stand in her own).

A few other things I suppose worth mentioning is that the hind legs part was significantly looser than the front part. For me the extra slack was welcomed since I walk my dog from the back grip. If I were to decrease the slack (which I can), her legs would be much too far from the ground -- sending her spine into misalignment.

The only othe gripe I have would be the way the front strap works. I dislike the fact my dog has the step into the straps. I feel there is much greater chances for chaffing her upper area.

Some extra (front) padding would be welcomed.

But for ~$50, I''m satisfied nonetheless and could not ask for a better harness for my dog''s recovery. I may invest in some padding and duct tape it to the front straps, and then it''ll be perfect enough.
[...]

All the best.

My 80-year-old mother has a 14 1/2 year-old black lab who weighs 75 lbs. She has the common problem of arthritis in her legs and hips--the dog, not my mom, however, my mother *is* 80 years old and slowing down herself. Our vet recommended that we purchase a lift harness to help the dog (and my mom) when she needed to get up from the floor. I liked the look of this harness because it had two handles and no fabric. It also fit my Prime membership.

At $45, it was on the high end of the harnesses available, but I felt like Bridget and my mom deserved something that wasn''t going to fall apart. The quality of the materials is overall high except for some key components. The handles are well-stitched and well padded; the lobster claw clips are heavy metal and very well made. The web straps are, well, web straps, not sure how you could mess those up. However the hardware used to hold the legs straps to the harness leaves a lot to be desired.

First, there are the flat metal slides on the web straps that are used to adjust the length of the straps. They are made of metal--good. But instead of having smooth edges, they are sharp. Not enough to cut a finger, but enough to make it uncomfortable for me to adjust the strap. And they feel cheap. I''m sorry I can''t explain it any better than that, but they are lower quality than the other parts of the harness. Except for...

The way the leg straps attach to the harness. I''ve included a picture, but I''m not sure I can explain it. It''s like a plastic loop that fits over a plastic peg and snaps into place. The plastic pieces are sturdy enough, but the "snap" just doesn''t hold. It doesn''t take much of a nudge to knock the loop off the peg. I will likely remove the leg straps, as I think the harness will work fine without them.

I won''t return it because it works well enough and I don''t want to have to choose a replacement and wait for it to arrive. I do wish more attention had been paid to the entire harness as 90% of it is a very good quality. But the 10% that isn''t really affects the performance of the product.

There is one thing I totally do not understand and that is the part that wraps around the dog''s belly/back, on the underneath side, there is hard metal piece BUT that piece is shaped like a "V", and this digs into her belly when I pull up on the strap. It seems to me that piece should be a smoothly shaped perhaps raising up ever so slightly to allow for a male dog (if that is their concern) but it doesn''t, it''s a drastic V shape with the ends on either side are left to jab straight up into the dog''s stomach. That is unacceptable and definitely a design flaw. If it weren''t for that, I would have liked it and probably kept it, but For the Love of God, I''m not torturing my poor dog''s belly with this; I guarantee you that will cause nothing but soreness if used over and over (as is needed if your dog needs it in the first place). And, for the record, I actually don''t believe they need to have that heavy metal piece there at all.

I was originally hesitant to make the purchase as the price seemed to cheap considering how elaborate the harness looked. Since my 110 lbs malimute 14 year old has degenerative myelodpathy and arthritis he is losing control of his hind end and lost so much muscle he can no longer go up stairs and get up depending on his leg position and fatigue level. At 65 bucks any chance to improve his and our lives was worth the chance. I was very pleased to see the construction lay out and quality. Putting the harness on the first time and getting its adjusted with an unsure dog was tricky. Once set up just remove the buckles from one and let it drop to the floor for the dog to walk out. If the front and rear are disconnected you can mistakenly put the front on the wrong direction. My dog can stand for to long so you can put most of the harness on while the dog is lying down. For the rest of the info on the harness check out Stan and I''s video of it in action. This harness has vastly improved our dogs mobility and well being along with making things better for us. Hes excited to put on his harness as he realizes it time for a trek!

I’m only giving 4 stars purely because I haven’t had to use it yet and hopefully never will. I bought the harness just in case as my Golden Retriever’s back end sometimes needs a little help to get up. I have put the harness on her to get the fitting right in preparation for use. Must admit, the full harness is quite intimidating when you first look at it. Loads of straps & buckles. But once you get it all set to correct fitting, it seems to support her weight perfectly if I do need to use it. I will be wary of the back leg straps in case they rub her. Also I do wonder how I will get the harness on her if she is lying on the ground unable to get up. But time will tell. Although the full harness is expensive, it seems very well made and of good quality. I paid for fast delivery and it did arrive within 48hrs. If I ever have to use it, I will update my review.

My dog developed complete back leg paralysis at the beginning of March. She has finally been making a comeback and this harness has really helped support her so she doesn’t hurt herself in the process (falling) the straps had to be tightened a lot but I just sewed across at a shorter length and cut the access off (it made it more confusing with all the extra straps all over) the other thing was the joining part was way to big. So I took some of the extra strap, and some clips off a lanyard and sewed our own which seemed to work amazing! So overalll we are super happy and feel so good being able to take Tika for longer walks! And also feeling re assured that the harness is helping support her and we are able to help her along when needed. Thank you for a great product and adding to Tikas quality of life!

I bought the harness just in case as my Golden Retriever’s back end sometimes needs a little help to get up. I have put the harness on her to get the fitting right in preparation for use. Must admit, the full harness is quite intimidating when you first look at it. Loads of straps & buckles. Also I do wonder how I will get the harness on her if she is lying on the ground unable to get up. But time will tell. Unfortunately,my cat could not try this product as he passed away. I brought initially to help with his rear leg weakness caused by his illness. Although, I could not try the product on my cat I did inspect the item. It looks very good quality with many clips to make adjusting and dressing your cat/dog in the item easier.
