Introduction

This book is for both those who love to organize in their free time and those who want  to get organized but feel they just can’t make the time. It’s for the moms who are sick of looking at sippy cups in their cabinets and wish there was more room for champagne glasses. It’s for those of us who go to work, sit at our desks, and continue to wonder how we always end up with so many pens that rarely have ink. It’s for the craft lovers, the beauty product enthusiasts, and the jet-set travelers.

Basically, this book is for everyone. We wanted to create a book that shows you how to live the life you love without feeling bad about the things you own. We wanted to show you that being organized isn’t limited to pantries, closets, and other rooms in your house. It also extends to your hobbies, your travel, and even your phone. Organizing is a lifestyle and mindset that anyone can adopt. Consider this book our 360-degree approach to help you contain the chaos of your life and all the contents that come with it—whatever that may be.

Alright, now that we have that covered, it’s time to step inside and leave any guilt you might have about owning things at the door . . . except can you maybe take your shoes off first? Thanks!

Not worth it.

I was really excited to get this because I love the Home Edit instagram. Unfortunately, the book is not that useful. It''s basically just buy things to hold your stuff and put your stuff away in rainbow order. Do not recommend.

Everything goes into plastic containers and then in some kind of cabinet. I don''t like that plan.

Pretty pictures, a little too cutesy writing style.
They admit the pictures are styled Instagram style and that they they put a lot of items in ‘back stock’ with no details on handling rotation and how best to store ‘back stock’.
There has to be some formula on space and how to figure out how much a closet can store not discussed in the book.
The most uncomfortable part of their approach is the dependence on buying storage items especially earth unfriendly clear plastic ones that tie into a cross branded selling at Container Store.

I was excited to get this book, but it is going right back. There are so many things I dislike about this book. For starters, there is so much fluff added into the book. There are pages and pages of stuff that has nothing to do with organizing. For example, lists of the authors'' pet peeves. Who cares about that? There are personality quizzes to determine which author you are most similar to. Again, I don''t care. I also don''t care whose job it is to get the kids ready for school. I found the authors'' attempt at comedy to be just plain obnoxious., and not at all funny. I wanted to scream, "Get on with it already!"

One of the other things that bothered me was that the photos were almost all photos of celebrity closets that the authors had organized. They were filled with thousands of dollars worth of organizational bins and shelving units that the average person would not be able to afford. There was very little practical information for the average household. I also couldn''t stand that every single photo had items arranged in rainbow order with white shelves and closets. It felt nothing like how a real house would look. I found it very childish and obnoxious. It would have been nice to have photos of real world houses. It was nearly impossible to visualize how closets and pantries in my house might look.

I know this book received a lot of great reviews, but I found it full of a lot of impractical fluff and very little useful information. I had a very difficult time getting beyond the first chapter. There are better books out there.

I have watched the home edit, and I was so excited to read this book; this book gives you the idea to organize your home in rainbow colors; if you have children or loves colors, this order works for you. I love their way they think and keep things in order. They do have pictures on what they organize and how to all the steps. The only reason I''m giving four stars is that most of the product is a bit pricey for my budget for a college student or other families during these rough times of COVID-19. Overall, it is a great book to explain how to start organizing your home or safe space. I do wish they can sell their labels in Spanish or order languages; that would be great. My family speaks Engish and Spanish. Maybe make some funny ones like your lazy day pack drawer, or it''s noon somewhere box. Can wait what they come up next! :)

Like many, I bought this book having watched the series. It certainly projects the personalities of Clea and Joanna - it even contains a quiz on which presenter you are most like and little ‘true story’ anecdotes about their experiences so it is a book as much about the presenters as their suggestions for organisation. It has beautiful photographs and numerous name drops of ‘famous’ people but is a disappointment. The sections on organising spaces if you are a fashion blogger or party planner will only be useful to the few. I had hoped for practical tips for organising your average home , eg a section on suggestions of how to use different ‘bins’ for storage or how to organise a wardrobe rather than a closet that contains more shoes than I’ve had in my lifetime ( I don’t actually have a shoe cupboard) . I expect the idea is for the reader to translate the organisation of a huge walk in pantry to your kitchen cupboards but if you are looking for a book full of practical tips I don’t think this book delivers.

I found this book an enjoyable read - it has the same humour and tone as the THE Instagram and tv show so if you enjoy those I’d expect you’d enjoy this. It does talk about how to work out your organisation style etc but it’s much lighter on practical organising tips than their Conquering the Clutter book. If you’re after a manual to help you declutter and reorganise your home I’d suggest Conquering the Clutter instead. I’d probably categorise this book as more of a coffee table or lifestyle book, with a few hints and tips in there. I liked this book but I’d definitely say less useful if you’re staring a jam packed under-the-stairs cupboard in the face.

I had expected that the book would provide practical advice, tips, options and suggestions where to find a variety of storage boxes, etc, but it doesn’t. For the most part it contains stories about the authors and their clients, and pictures of cupboards, shelving and storage that are not really achievable in the average uk dwelling. And while filing books etc in rainbow sequence can look pretty, how on earth do you ever find what you’re looking for?
